The School of Health was established under the auspices of İnönü University, in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Health Council, dated May 23, 1995, numbered 18/1, upon the request of the Ministry of Health and the proposal of the Council of Higher Education, and upon the enactment of Council of Ministers' Decree No. 96/8616, published in the Official Gazette, dated November 2, 1996, numbered 22805. Our School began education in the 1997/1998 academic year and was affiliated with the newly established Adıyaman University, in accordance with Article 68 (b) of Annex 5467, dated March 1, 2006.
Later, the School of Health was converted into a Faculty of Health Sciences by Presidential Decree No. 2222 in the Official Gazette, dated March 4, 2020, numbered 31058.
Our Faculty of Health Sciences is an institution that trains nurses and midwives. Our faculty serves 906 students with 2 professors, 7 associate professors, 12 assistant professors, 1 lecturer, and 8 research assistants. In the Besni district, the Nursing and Midwifery departments of the Faculty of Health Sciences began offering education in the Besni branch of the Faculty of Health Sciences as of the 2024-2025 academic year. The Besni branch serves 83 nursing and 79 midwifery students. The Nursing and Midwifery departments offer a four-year undergraduate degree.
72 graduate students are actively pursuing their graduate education in the Fundamentals of Nursing and Midwifery master's programs affiliated with the Graduate Education Institute.
Master's programs in the Department of Child Health and Disease Nursing and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing were opened in 2025. These programs are planned to begin accepting students in the spring semester of the 2025-2026 academic year.
