

The Adıyaman University Midwifery Department was first established within the Adıyaman School of Health, affiliated with İnönü University, in accordance with the decision of the Higher Health Council, numbered 18/1, dated May 23, 1995, the request of the Ministry of Health, and the recommendation of the Council of Higher Education. The establishment was formalized with the Council of Ministers' Decree numbered 96/8616, published in the Official Gazette, numbered 22805, dated November 2, 1996. The Midwifery Department commenced its educational activities in the 1997-1998 academic year, accepting its first students. Since its inception, the department has aimed to train qualified midwives and to make scientific, ethical, and social contributions to the profession of midwifery, a cornerstone of the healthcare system.
With the establishment of Adıyaman University under Article 68 of Annex 5467, dated March 1, 2006, the midwifery department continued its educational activities under the umbrella of the Adıyaman University School of Health.
The department was incorporated into the Faculty of Health Sciences at Adıyaman University by Presidential Decree No. 2222, published in the Official Gazette dated March 4, 2020, and numbered 31058, and continues its educational activities there.
The Department of Midwifery at Adıyaman University's Faculty of Health Sciences is a four-year undergraduate program. The program aims to train midwives who are competent, contemporary, ethical, and able to provide community-based and scientifically based care. Students who successfully complete the program are awarded a "Midwifery Undergraduate Diploma." Graduates are granted the right to use the title "Midwife" by the Executive Board of the Council of Higher Education, in accordance with Law No. 2547.
The Department of Midwifery at Adıyaman University's Graduate Education Institute opened in the fall semester of the 2021-2022 academic year and began accepting students for postgraduate programs that same year.
